Worship at St. Clement's
We are the Beneficiaries of Twenty Centuries of Prayer and Song
As with most everything in our "consumer culture" there are choices and options. For
coffee, it's either Starbucks or Caribou. For fast-food, McDonald's or Subway. More
seriously, we choose our schools and doctors. And our churches.
The way we worship makes a difference. As an Episcopal Church in the worldwide
Anglican Communion, the Liturgy at St. Clement's is traditional yet modern; elegant but
vital; inclusive yet focused.
Two books, the Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal 1982, are the basic resources
for our worship. Each Sunday as we gather to celebrate the Eucharist, we use Rite II
and we sing hymns and service music that help amplify the meaning of Sacred
Scripture. Our spirituality is deepened by following the church calendar. Our choirs help
perfect our praise. By worshiping in accordance with these treasured books, we are
beneficiaries of twenty centuries of prayer and song.
A concern for form, beauty and holiness brings a certain cool elegance to our worship.
Yet because we worship as an intergenerational community, children, especially, remind
us that our Lord calls us primarily to come to the table and "do these things" and that
vitality resides in the gathering of all the baptized.
