A meaningful ministry

The Psalmist wrote, “Ascribe to the Lord the honor due his Name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Those who participate in the ministry of music have an opportunity to serve God and bring beauty, joy and comfort to others. When you become a member of a musical ensemble at St. Clement’s, you become part of a program dedicated to magnifying the praise and adoration of God through music.

Mission of St. Clement’s Music

  • To gather together in the love of Christ to offer music to the glory of God and for the spiritual edification of those who worship here;
  • To assist worshippers with their role in the liturgy;
  • To minister to the parish, the greater community, and the world.

Devoted to excellence in sacred music — from the medieval to the modern
The St. Clement's Choir, the principal choir of the parish, is a mixed chorus (SATB) of 26 voices. The Choir's repertoire includes everything from plainchant to the most modern classical music, with special emphasis on music from the Anglican choral tradition. The Choir has been invited to sing at local and national gatherings, including traveling to London for a one-week residency at Westminster Abbey during the summer of 2001.

The choir sings for the Sunday Choral Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. throughout the year, except for the month of August. The Choir also sings for Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday and Holy Week evening services, and for Choral Evensong about four times a year.

Rehearsals for the St. Clement's Choir are Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. (7:00 to 9:00 p.m. during Advent and Lent; there are no Wednesday rehearsals in June, July, and August). Children's Music
The Children's Choirs at St. Clement's provide an opportunity for young members of the parish to develop vocal and musical skills, learn about liturgy, and participate in worship. There are two choirs for children: KinderChoir for children ages 3 through 1st grade, and Choristers for children in grades 2-6. Rehearsals are held during the school year on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:15 pm.

KinderChoir activities include learning hymns and anthems, musical games and activities, stories from the Bible, movement, refreshments and fun!

Activities for Choristers include rehearsal and preparation of anthems and hymns, musical/liturgical training and advancement through the Royal School of Church Music curriculum, and opportunities to participate in larger liturgical events outside St. Clement's. O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven; be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
