The vestry is the governing body of the church. It sets general policies of the church, takes formal actions required by law and church canons, elects interim parish officers between annual meetings and adopts the annual operating and capital budgets. Each vestry member also serves as chair or co-chair of a standing vestry committee. There are 12 members of the vestry, plus the lay leaders of the parish, the senior and junior wardens. St. Clement's wardens and vestry members are elected at the annual meeting for three-year terms. Three vestry members are elected each year, plus other members to fill unexpired terms. Wardens are elected for a one-year term. Vacancies occurring between annual meetings are filled by the vestry. Any member of St. Clement's age 16 or over is eligible to be a candidate for the vestry. Vestry Committees The vitality and effectiveness of Vestry Committees rests on the willing participation of members of the parish. Call a committee chair or the church office if you would like to participate in the work of a Vestry Committee. Communications: The Communications Committee serves as the focal point for all church communication to members and community by supporting other church committee needs, maintaining and investigating improvements to current communication vehicles, and investigating new possibilities - especially electronic. Finance Committee: The Finance Committee manages St. Clement's investments and makes recommendations to the Vestry regarding financial decisions. The committee is responsible for preparing the annual budget, monitoring pledge and investment income, and consulting with and advising the Treasurer and Memorial Committee as needed. Liturgy and Music Committee: The purpose of the Liturgy and Music Committee is threefold: 1) to assist the Rector and Director of Music in planning liturgical and musical events; 2) to represent the interests and concerns of the congregation regarding our worship life; and 3) to provide liturgical education. The committee also coordinates and schedules Altar Guild, Acolytes, Lectors, Prayer Leaders, Chalice Bearers, and Ushers. Welcoming & Connecting Committee: The Welcoming & Connecting Committee is responsible for assuring that every newcomer and visitor is warmly welcomed and invited to participate in parish activities. The ministry of greeting is vital to our mission, and one in which all St. Clement's parishioners participate. The committee fosters integration of newcomers in two significant ways by: 1) designating two Greeters each Sunday who take primary responsibility for welcoming newcomers and visitors; and 2) arranging small dinner parties of 8 to 12 people in parishioner's homes that include both newcomers and other parish members. Parish Life: The Parish Life Committee coordinates hospitality for visitors and members. The committee coordinates Sunday morning coffee hours and receptions for special services, and compiles and distributes St. Clement's annual Social Calendar and Lenten Lectionary. Invitation: The Invitation Committee coordinates external communications in print, web and other media to promote St. Clement's to non-members, and to encourage them to visit our church and join us for worship and fellowship. Pastoral Care: The Pastoral Care Committee develops and implements programs that further its mission that all St. Clement's parishioners will be cared for by and within the community. It seeks to involve the community in programs that increase personal contact among St. Clemites, with emphasis on providing support to parishioners who are shut-in, ill or bereaved. Property: The Property Committee is responsible for St. Clement's buildings, grounds and equipment. The committee monitors, evaluates and prioritizes needed repairs and renovation, supervises the work of hired professionals, and provides much volunteer labor. Social Action: The Social Action Committee works to increase awareness of and involvement in community activities concerned with issues of peace, justice, poverty, hunger, and the environment. The committee organizes outreach activities, and allocates its budget to organizations and causes that need financial assistance. Stewardship: The Stewardship Committee organizes the annual stewardship campaign to generate pledges in support of the operating budget for the coming year, and also works to raise awareness of parish needs and stewardship opportunities.
